If you prefer to donate towards products for us to deliver, consider the good people below.

We have worked with different organisations to get their good delivered.

We do NOT recommend donating to DEC or Red Cross.
They have significant overhead costs (which reduces what actually gets to those in need), and often goods sit in warehouses for months before being distributed.

Instead consider donating to the first set of links OR to these organisations :

Just a few months ago at the start of 2022, Ukraine was a vibrant, expanding, optimistic country.

Now 10 million of its people are displaced, with half of that number scattered around other European countries. The others are stuck in a limbo state of accommodation and employment. Uncertain when they can return to the homes they were building, and the lives they were leading, they wait, fearing that they will be the next unlucky ones to suffer life-changing injury or death.

National infrastructure is severely damaged, and access to basics such as healthcare is fraught, with state resources focussed on defending the country.

help4ukraine seeks to ease this abominable tragedy, principally by arranging transport of medical supplies to trusted organisations.

https://help4ukraine.uk/february-2023/676c75d8cea1cb000157cb58Sat, 25 Feb 2023 00:00:00 GMTHarwich to Hook of Holland via Stenaline is becoming a regular experience ! Seven trips now comprising total 10 vehicles, delivering 14 tonnes of aid.

This time we took an urgently needed delivery of medical aid including first aid kits, trauma kits and ~40 portable stretchers for #Medics4Ukraine, part of World Extreme Medecine (WEM : https://worldextrememedicine.com).

WEM have taken over £1.5m in aid since the start of the conflict, and continue to organise much-needed supplies. It’s easy to support them with the price of a coffee or more at https://www.gofundme.com/f/medics4ukraine.

A roundtrip from the UK to a secure delivery point is 2600 miles / 4200 kms, or about 45 hours of driving. We already have some safe and secure stop points - safety is paramount when taking cargo whose value is best measured in lives saved than in monetary cost.

But we found a new one ! Ever slept in a container before ? An excellent conversion, and very convenient for the road warrior who just needs a bed and a shower.

1.5 tonnes of clothing, aid for frontline workers and medical trauma equipment.

Despite some snow, the weather was kind, given the season.

More than can be said for the sat nav. Same address in different systems gave different locations.

And some bizarre routing. Alternative route showing 30 mins time saving was just a detour off the main road, through some countryside villages and back on to the main road just diverted from, costing an additional 20 mins rather than saving 30 !

What’s that about ? Bad map data ? Incorrect traffic information ? Dodgy GPS connection ?

Oh well, a long road trip of 4,000 kms needs a bit of adventure 😄

A smooth journey with a little excitement of tyre blowout on a lorry just ahead of our lead vehicle - fortunately the shed tyre bounced ‘the right way’ onto the hard shoulder.

German Customs agency (Zoll) took a little interest in one vehicle at a motorway services, but rapidly sent us on our way.

https://help4ukraine.uk/june-2022/676c78fccea1cb000157cbabSat, 25 Jun 2022 20:29:00 GMTIn June, TVG members led by Tim Considine / help4ukraine volunteered their time and experience to drive a convoy of medical supplies to the Ukraine border.

World Extreme Medicine (https://worldextrememedicine.com) responded to the unfolding humanitarian crisis with an initiative called Medics4Ukraine, organising desperately needed trauma kits and other medical supplies.

Needing additional drivers for their third convoy, a WEM coordinator & TVG member asked TVG to call for additional volunteer drivers.

TVG members Tim, Toby and Konrad were joined by paramedic & advanced driver Glenn for the 2,700 mile (4,320 kms) round trip from the UK to the border between Poland and Ukraine.

On arrival, the cargo was quickly transferred to vans driven by Ukrainian volunteers, and loaded with additional supplies of water and food. The UA team then headed back to a secure location, their 100kms journey taking 6 hours instead of a normal 2.

The TVG team took 5 days from journey start to end, without needing to rely on contingency time built into the route plan.

The 4 drivers rotated between driving and navigating, and also rotated between vehicles. This kept the team fresh and allowed all to know both vehicles (in case of any emergencies). The result was a smooth drama-free journey which needed only one overnight stop on outbound and return journeys.

Volunteers in Poland provided a warm welcome and overnight accommodation before the cargo transfer.

Even though one vehicle was speed-restricted, the team succeeded in keeping a good driving pace throughout. The route through Germany could have been faster, if we could have used the higher autobahn speed limits. In practice, this had little impact on overall journey time, proving the point that making progress does not require maxing out the speedometer.

The convoy used PMR walkie-talkie radios for van-to-van communication. While we tried regular mobile phone calls and messenger chats between navigators, these were slow to connect and even failed to connect. The PMR radios provided near-instant communication for route confirmations approaching junctions, and checking on driver welfare.

WEM need further donations, and you can support their work at https://www.gofundme.com/f/medics4ukraine.

The convoy also carried equipment on behalf of Solent Medical Skills who provide First Response Emergency Care courses. Their website has a blog article (https://solentmedicalskills.co.uk/frec/) about the critical and hazardous work being undertaken by volunteers.

(Route details are withheld to avoid compromising security of future convoys.)
